The Syrian Street Festival 2014
Street celebration-third session: the ground moved for the third time, yet still the bitterness of blood permeates the air of the Syrians’ houses and still the injustice holds our necks by new hands each time as if freedom is forbidden. We were dreaming of the deporting of the tyrant from our life in the first anniversary of the revolution, but today we are in front of El Sham tyrant and new tyrants who are fighting with him the voice of freedom in our heads. Art defeats repression, so we have to celebrate the revolution which faced the military dictatorship, and today it’s facing the religious extremism. We have to celebrate the freedom dream because of which our cities are punished by explosive barrels and cars. Syrian street celebration in its third session in Kafrnabl-Idlib countryside will open its activities with a construction work entitled “Barzakh” by the Syrian artist Heba Alansari. This work is about hanging children dresses with sheep legs on a space of a destroyed house by bombing. 30 dresses for children who live in Barzakh world and it’s the first work that was displayed in a public place inside the liberated areas in Syria. Moreover, a group of documentaries about Syria will be presented within “Street cinema” activities, and they were produced by Alshare3 foundation of media and development during the revolution. Also, we will cooperate with “The festival of Syrian mobile films” whose the first session will be through this celebration this year in order to encourage people to produce their opinions by creative ways using mobile cameras. This festival seeks to encourage professional and amateur filmmakers to present their shows and compete on many awards with supervision of international arbitration committee, in addition to held films in various spaces around the world and produce continual workshops throughout the year. All details about the festival will be published in a special statement in the few next days. In addition, there will be “Freedom, it must be” campaign for the second year in cooperation with the project “live” in Kafrnabl. This campaign is about painting on walls and spraying grafity works, such as the statement: “There is no compulsion in religion”. The artist Maen Kledo will present mosaic gallery contains 20 works which copy Kafrnabl’s famous signboards to be hanged in the city as immortal works. This year, the street celebration is trying to work in the public space that was stolen twice from the Syrian community by the regime who dominated the community through Hafez Alassad’s status, photos and words in the streets and houses, and today through the writings on the liberated areas walls, for example “Jabhet Alnusra”, by military battalions in Syria that imposed flags and pennants on the local communities dominated by them. The idea of organizing the Syrian street celebration has come for the first time in March 2012, and it presented during two years a series of cultural and cinematographic performances inside Syria and in many European cities and capitals. Alshare3 foundation for media and development organizes annual celebration in the anniversary of the Syrian revolution since the first year of it where provided events in Raqqa, Tal Abyad, Jarablus, Manbeg, Albab and Kafrnabl.
